The coil and spark plugs will give the electrics a much-needed boost. I believe the plugs are 30k miles old now. Coil is original. Plug wires and distributor are new-ish, so I’ll be good on spark for a while.

Brake lines are due, they’re original. Might as well go HD with braided while they’re on sale, right?

See how easy it is to rationalize all this stuff? :-)

Spark Plugs – The Latest Tech & Products

Spark plugs are a pretty basic maintenance item in most cars but with turbocharged cars, especially those making higher than stock levels of power, spark plugs become a vital part of the power delivery system. Additional tune up items typically include cap/rotor and spark plug wires but spark plugs take the brunt of the wear in the ignition and it’s not uncommon to have to replace them 3-4 times before any other ignition systems components require attention. With that said let’s look at the options out there and the benefits of each.

Volvo P2 R 90k Service Item Checklist

I bought a 2004 V70 R in 2010, and I needed to “baseline” it, get it back to Stage 0. I wanted it to drive like it came right out of the Ghent, Belgium factory like it did in July 2003. After the 90k service listed below, I gave her some Seafoam and new tires.

3… 2… 1… Ignition!

The ignition coils used on most cars today haven’t changed all that much in the last 50 years. A simple set of windings that when provided electricity creates a magnetic field that when collapses is amplified and creates enough voltage potential that it can jump a gap between two points. For our purpose with this article that’s as far as we’ll go with the understanding of transformer (ignition coil) fundamentals. Let’s instead focus on the bigger picture as it relates to misfires, specifically those that occur from increase boost and power development.
