    Codes P1171 & P1550-99 S70-Turbo

    Postby youngsinauburn » 03 Mar 2007, 19:57

Had local Autozone to pull code and they told me it was reading P1171 & P1550. Can anyone tell me what these mean and what I need to do to fix them.

Also noticed yesterday in the main fuse box that one fuse( I think it is a relay because it is big) is missing it is in the #2 position which states Air Pump. What does that do?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

P1171 is "Long Term Fuel Trim (Upper Limit)," as opposed to P1172 "Long Term Fuel Trim (Lower Limit)." The upper limit code has to do with a lean condition, and the lower limit code is a rich condition.

Among the upper limit code causes are the evaporative canister purge valve as being one possible source of a vacuum leak which would cause this code. The CP valve is a very common failure point on our cars and is located on the fan shroud behind the radiator at the front of the car. Another possible cause is the MAF sensor.

P1550 means the vehicle speed signal is missing. Your ABS module takes this signal and makes use of it. It could be the speed sensor at the wheel but most likely when this happens it's the ABS module itself. Is your ABS light on? I would reset it and see if it comes back.

In regards to the Air pump relay. Some cars didn't have the secondary air pump system. I'm not sure about your car but if it doesn't have one then that WOULD be missing out of the junction box.

Oh, by the way, you didn't tell us what your car was doing to have to get your codes read. I suppose your check engine light was on? But....what else was going on with your car? Symptoms of poor idling for instance, or the car won't start or it shuts off at strange times or you hear strange clicking sounds from the wheels, etc., etc. will tell us a lot of information that can be combined with the codes you gave us to help you figure this out. Nothing with a Volvo is ever as simple as it seems.

Sorry! The service engine light has been on. It went off for a day or so when I had the ETM replaced under the throttle body recall.

RE: P1171-The only thing I have noticed is that sometimes not everytime when I take off it hesitates kinda sputters and goes slow then it will pick up and you can go normally. Otherwise no problems that I notice.

Yes the ABS and Traction both are on. I am going to take the ABS off Sunday and send to Victor http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/ It is not as easy to remove as if were a non turbo.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should start trying to fix the problem.

I did this a while back. The main thing is to either find the right torx socket or get one from Victor...it makes all the difference in the world. If my memory serves me right, it's a E5 size. Calll around to keep from using gas...they are out there but a bit hard to find.
