Front Struts and Rear Shocks Replacement 93 Volvo 850

Postby justinfrim » 16 May 2008, 07:39

I have a terrible clunking sound on my front end and my front suspension is basically shot anyway. Can anyone recommend the exact part list I need to make sure I take care of the clunking sound and get the new struts?

My rear shocks are not as bad. What would be the basics to replace these?

And how many hours in labor is typical for something like this?

Thanks in advance!

it is expensive but if you hear a clunking it is most likely your strut mounts (rubber #5) get OEM. that is the highest % of failing items in our suspension. so if you do not need to replace anything because they are fine... get the spring seats first

REAR

please anyone chime in with other parts

Clunking on the front can also be the sway bar end links (#11). Unless you're planning on doing a complete overhaul, start with this...the cheap stuff first.

FCP Groton as a front suspension kit with the following for $450:

* Left and Right Control Arms with Ball Joints
* Left and Right Outer Tie Rod Ends
* Left and Right Front Strut Assemblies
* Left and Right Strut Mounts / w bearings
* Left and Right Spring Seats
* Left and Right Sway Bar Links
* Left and Right Strut Dust Boots
* Left and Right Strut Rubber Bumpers
* Strut Mount Lock Nuts (six)
* Strut Bolts (four)
* Lock Nuts for above bolts (four)

How much would I be looking at in labor hours on that?

I would call them...make sure NO SCANTECH products are thrown in the mix.

I can verify that the set up that FCP has listed for under $500 does have SCANTECH parts... so no no no on that.

and if you were to get ALL of that installed at a shop.. it would cost an arm and a leg... you can do a lot of it yourself

Both packages have Scantech parts? I don't have any place to work on this myself (live in downtown city) so will be taking to mechanic. How many hours of labor should it be you think to replace struts/shocks/strut mounts/spring seats/sway bar links?

Thanks again everyone.

I bought the FCP kit, and the spring seats lasted all of one month.

They probably had Scantech parts in the kit...like I said, call them and confirm. It's better to replace some parts for OEM parts that are Scantech and pay a little more...really!
