ABS / Tracs light issues 1998 Volvo S70 T5

Postby HT » Tue Aug 12, 2008 6:23 pm

165k miles. Just recently, brake pedal began clicking / pulsating when applying brakes at various speeds. Occationally, the ABS / Tracs light will come on. I can also hear a fast rotating clicking noise close to the drivers front wheel come on while just driving around town and NOT while applying brake. I have read many sites that talk about rebuilt ABS control module success. However, I not read where others have had my symptoms, they just say the ABS light came on.

HT, welcome to MVS. Your particular problem sounds like an ABS sensor at the wheel...the pulsating and clicking is what the ABS sounds like when it comes on. If you know where to look, try disconnecting the sensor and cleaning it and the terminal it plugs into. If this doesn't work, you might be in for an ABS module rebuild. Do you get any ABS/TRACS lights coming on on your dash?

Yes. The ABS / Tracs lights come on occationally. The clicking/spinning sound that I hear appears to be right at the drivers front wheel which makes sense from your message. I hear it at below 30 speeds go off for no reason without hitting the brakes. Can you tell me where to find the sensor?

I also just had all 4 brakes pads replaced. The mechanic stated the rotors barely had 1 more turn and will definately need replacing next brake service. Could this be an issue as well impacting the sensor and then the ABS?

Clean all of your ABS wheel sensors but I'm afraid you're in for your module to be rebuilt (they all go eventually on our cars).
