xc70 rear wiper arm replacement

Postby jfl2nd » 20 May 2009, 20:02

:?: Hi from newbie here. Does anyone know how to replace the rear wiper arm on xc70? I do not want to pry the arm off, considering it's glass underneath. :!:

Thanks for the pdf. My XC70, however, has the wiper arm going right, not left (and it is longer than the one in the diagram), and the nut is covered by a sort of shield that prevents one from removing the nut. I am assuming the arm must be prised off. -- Jim

have an xc70, 2003. looking to understand how to remove rear wiper arm. nut is off, but not sure how to remove arm. doesn't pull easily. previously attached pdf just says to 'detach arm and blade' after removing nut. replacement part has no threads, so am assuming it's a pull. perhaps cut the old arm off? looking for advice please.

thanks

From Jim:
It turns out that the cap covering the spray assembly pops off, and then you can simply back-off the nut. Much easier than I had thought. When placing the new arm on, you will need to be sure the new arm positions the wiper so as to stay on the glass at all times. These wiper arms are very fragile, so when I go to an automated carwash, I tape a piece of plastic over it (which I obtained by cutting down a plastic gallon milk bottle, and I use clear duct tape that leaves no residue of gray adhesive). Hope this helps.

Pliers, vice grips did not move the arm (after two WD40 shots). Arm cut with a Dremmel tool, not a full cut through, but enough to move / remove arm. New arm went on fine after cleaning.
Thanks.
