1996 850 T5 Turbo Windshield Washer Fluid Leak

Postby 850 Turbo1 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:32 am

Hi Everyone,
So here is my conundrum. Every time I fill my washer fluid, the low washer fluid comes on about a week later . I started thinking that I might be using too much. I put the car on ramps and filled the washer fluid with water...low and behold...waters starts leaking from the bottom. Is this the reservoir leaking...or could it be something else?

I have Volvo Vadis but can't seem to find the repair section for this. Has anyone else had this problem. If it was the summer I'd just use straight water, but it's the winter and we are dealing with below freezing temps.

Thanks!

The reservoirs crack & start to leak, just like the coolant reservoir and power steering ones do. I don't know what plastic they made these things out of, but it's not very good.

Try to track the leak down further (pulling off the air guide may help), and I'll try to find you something about how to get that thing out of there - I know the bolts are somewhat hard to find.

I don't have an air guide on mine. I was under it recently and I couldn't even see the reservoir, just the dripping. This is frustrating  :?

I'll keep looking as well for a repair guide or something to help.

Thanks Justin!

Well, not a repair guide, but they describe the location of the screws pretty well.

And apparently they found it in VADIS too, there's a diagram there
That software is really hard to use...I haven't figured it out entirely myself yet either, so don't feel bad

-washer reservoir screws.
-washer reservoir.

-level sensor, pull up.
-windshield washer pump, pull out from underneath the car. (A)
-rear windshield washer pump (5–door), pull up. (B)

Installing
Install:
-rear windshield washer pump (5–door), press carefully into place. (A)
-windshield washer pump, install from underneath the car. (B)
-level sensor, press carefully into place.
-hoses.
-washer reservoir.

Note! Before installing pump, immerse intake pipe in water or a soap solution to avoid compressing the rubber seal.

you dont need to take off the airdam to get to the resivior. its the big white tank in the very front passenger corner. it should be right in front of the FR wheel well. i think its just a couple of torx screws and then it comes out from the bottom. mine is leaking from somewhere too but i've only investigated it and not tackled it yet.

good luck,
andrew

Ok I'll just take it out and repair it I think. I'll take a photo if possible.

I'm glad I'm not the only one w/ this problem. I was wondering why I was always low on washer fluid.
