99 s70 SRS light "Reset"

Ok im puzzled, the SRS ligh is on like i says it will go on after 10 years of operation. No error codes come up when I run a diagnostic test from my volvo code reader, so how in the heck do you turn off the DAMED light ? and does that mean the the SRS system will not work anymore ?

Sadly the SRS codes are proprietary and a standard OBD-II code reader won't read them. Rumor has it that there is a cracked version of VOL-FCR floating around on Pirate Bay and then you need to buy a serial Vag-Com cable - under $20.00 shipped off of eBay.

You do need a serial port on your PC to get it all to work. A few folks have made USB to serial adapters work but others have not so it is a bit of a crap shoot.

If the light is on the system - except for the SIPS - is disabled.

VOL-FCR won't help on the '99-00s (it won't speak to CAN bus equipped Volvos). You need either a) a VADIS or VIDA workstation or b) an Ohio Diagnostics AutoDiagnos, or c) a Draper reset tool in order to reset the SRS light.

I have the VADIS iso, and will burn it to a DVD, how exactly does it communicate to the vehicle? (98 V70XC) Serial port somewhere?

VADIS talks through the VCT2000 interface - there is one on eBay for $500.00 right now which is actually pretty cheap. They are usually over $1000.00 on the used market.

Ah, much appreciated. A tad out of my budget. I'll live with the light on. According to what I read, the system is now inoperative with the exception of the SIPS, what exactly is that?

Another question, would anyone have a diagram of the VAG-Com cable?

Despair not, those with '98's! A Draper tool will reset your SRS
and those pesky, mileage activated "SERVICE ENGINE" lights:

These pop up on eBay pretty often at anywhere from $50 to $150.

And SIPS stands for S ide I mpact P rotection S ystem.
It's a stand alone system triggered by a pyro-mechanical
sensor in the door side of the front seat bottoms.

Well, I found VOL-FCR, and a schematic for a buffered interface cable. Time to spin up the turbines on ye olde soldering iron. Plan on using a $40 OBD2 scanner and splitting the cable to a DB-9. The fact that the interface is opto isolated might even make it possible to capture the scanner - vehicle data interchange to a file with a terminal program. Now where did I put that PIC microcontroller tutorial . . . Will keep y'all updated.

Found you little bugger. I was looking for this post. It's probably against forum policy to ask here as well, so I'm just going to redirect (I'm looking to reset my SRS light on '96 850). http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24418&p=288571#p288571
New to Volvo, already liking it. Hoping to keep it in good shape, not like the previous Benz 190e

Repairs so far: tie rods, outer CV Boot, air control flap, control rod, ABS module, various seals, motor mount
