Flashing arrow and check engine light

Postby duncan618 » 19 Aug 2010, 23:10

I have a 1999 volvo v70. The transmission is slipping and the flashing arrow is on and the check engine light is also on. I checked out the site and I have replaced the PND switch and the shifter lock switch and have cleared the codes. I have flushed the tranny, but after driving it about 10 miles it comes back on again and the tranny like goes into slip mode. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks duncan618

How did you align the PNP switch? It sounds like it is not properly aligned.

What code(s) are you posting?

The 2 switches I replace I followed all the instructions off of the forum. The codes I am receiving are 1718 and 758. Sorry I took so long to reply but work has been crazy.

I need help. I have a 1999 v70. All this time I have been trying to figure this thing out. I have the flashing arrow and the check engine light is on. I replaced the PNP switch and aligned it 100 times going with all the ideas on the forum and i finally got fed up and went and purchased the tool from Volvo dealership. This doesn't work neither. Still have flashing arrow and check engine light. The codes I am getting are P0758 Shift solenoid circuit + electrical and code P1618 Manufacturer control auxiliary inputs and auxiliary outputs. Does anyone please have any solutions. I love this car and it is in awesome shape to put in the graveyard of cars. Thanks Mike

The flashing arrow is an indicator that you have a tranny problem severe enough to put itself into "limp home" mode, which happens to be 3rd gear. You do NOT have a PNP switch problem! You have a solenoid problem at the transmission and it sounds like it is an electrical problem verses an actual problem with the solenoid.

It is repairable, but not that easy. Unless you find a bad wiring plug.

Where is the solenoid located on the tranny and does the wire harness attach to it directly. Thanks Mike

Mike,

The solenoids are inside of the oil pan on the front of the transmission - they are a bit of a BI-itch to get to but a mere mortal can indeed do the job. It just isn't fun.

Once you get the pan off the solenoids are pure cake to change
