190/60/15 VS 190/65/15 1997 850 Sedan CETUS wheels

Postby BlackThunder » Mon Dec 20, 2010 9:42 pm

I just got some new tires today and the size that was put on was 190/65/15 is that going to matter much from the gas door's recommendation of 190/60/15?

Should I take these back? I got some new Cooper CS4s. They are nice, so far, in the snow.

What does the 60 and 65 mean?

Your new tires are slightly taller, that's all.

I had 65's on my old wagon. They're fine.

Cool link, thanks Matty Moo. So, no reason to worry just the odometer and the speedometer will be off slightly. I suppose MPG calculations will be off as well. But other than those seemingly minor things it will be ok.

yeah...and different manufacturers measure differently. They did the same damn thing to me at Wal Mart and I need new struts up front anyway...so I have some rubbing and my drivers side front wheel well liner is jacked up now...

The second number in a tire is the percentage of the first number that it is tall. 65 is taller...5 percent taller.

Those Cooper CS4's are amazing. We have them on my wife's Pontiac G6 and that thing grips like ABC gum to the sole of your shoe on a hot day. The Bridgestone Turanzas I got on my car are okay, but not great. I haven't tested them in the snow, but I'll be driving up through MN in a week and a half so they'll get their test then.

So, RyanGLT, you're saying this will eventually bottom out and wreck the wheel liner (with a big pot hole or some wicked jump, obviously)?

5% isn't that much of a difference, right? That 5% will probably be gone after the first year of driving, the tread will wear away I would think.

No, but you may have some rubbing at near to and full lock.
This is an XC size tire where the ride height is taller and there is more wheel well clearance

I haven't had a chance to post this, but problem solved. I actually mentioned the tire size that was put on before was incorrect and the tire place swapped them out for the correct size for free! Fantastic. Same model just the correct size.

Caledonia Wheel and Alignment in Caledonia, MN - they are really nice there.

Thanks for all the help, as always, everyone!
