    Mode Indicator Arrow Light Flashing

    Postby woods369 » 03 Jun 2005, 19:15

Is anyone out there that can help me??????

I have a 1995 850 Volvo, Sedan, non-turbo. The mode indicator arrow light comes on flashing, with the check engine light. When the arrow comes on flashing, what does this really mean? I had the switch replaced. It still comes on. I was told just to drive the car in the "sport mode". The arrow comes on regardless of being in economy or sport mode.

    HELP ME I'M DROWNING!!!!!

By switch do you mean the PNP switch?

    The Switch

    Postby woos369 » 21 Jun 2005, 20:08

I had the console switch replaced, the one that you can switch into sport mode, winter mode, and back to economy mode. The mode indicator arrow comes on regardless which mode I switch it into.

Pull codes from the A1 socket. Chances are it's the PNP switch as Jot mentioned earlier. Easy fix.

Depends what the cause of the flashing light is.

Do you mean the upward-pointing arrow on the dash that comes on anytime you're in winter, 3, or L ?

If so, STOP DRIVING THE CAR until you've gotten those codes out. Yes, pull over on the side of the road and get it towed. When that arrow flashes, it's the transmission's way of saying ***!!!***WTF***!!!***

If it's on solid it's not something to panic about, just something to look into. Flashing is cause for panic.

Since it's a 1995, you'll need to follow the instructions White850Turbo linked to. Once you've gotten the code, you can make a more reasoned assessment of how dangerous it might be to drive the vehicle. It could be as simple as a PNP switch. It could also mean the transmission is in dire straits.

Until you've got those codes out of it, it's all guesswork.
