I bought my 98 v70xc last year, and almost right off the bat had to get a new driveshaft. Since I had that done the battery doesnt seem to hold charge for long. I replaced the alternator (but haven't checked the amps since) and am on my third battery in like 4 months. I did notice the headlights flickering dim before the driveshaft replacement, but since I have issues with airbag light coming on and the vehical going into winter mode on its own(seems to be when it needs to charge?) Once jumped the vehical will run until I stop. I love the car but this has got me flustered, any help out there?

Welcome to MVS.
I would take a look at your grounds, power, and +B cables. If they are the original cables, they are probably old and rioted out. Replacing them could be all you need to do.

Load and current test the alternator. Report back what you found. Batteries don't usually die on their own. Usually a bad alternator or a parasitic drain are to blame.

Thanks, I will look into that, kinda where I thought to start, but with gauges and winter setting fritzing out I thought maybe someone has been there? Do you think thats the same issue, I hope so.

Usually either that or the internally corroded cables as mentioned earlier.

ok, still open.... I took to O'reily's and it does have low output, I have warantee on alternator, and the cables are only 9.99 each so I'll just replace them to be sure... One other thing, would the headlight switch also cause this? I have an outstanding recall according to carfax, and wonder if thats the one...

again, check your cables by doing voltage drop test under load. then test alternator
get a digital volt meter if you don't have one
read up on this site about "voltage drop" "B+ cable" "stater cable"
