Hi every one I have a 1999 Volvo S80 T6 model and i am trying to replace my shift solenoid but i am having a heck of a time locating the part i was lucky enough to be able to buy a new one from Auto Zone for only 26.00 just in case any one else is looking for it. also this is causing a code to pop up P0751 my OBD2 reader says the shift solenoid is stuck open. My car has 167,000 miles and has had regular maintenance so if any one knows the location or even better the procedure that would be great. Also if any one needs help with a 2000-2004 volvo S40 i could help i still have my alltadata account on my old volvo so i could log back in and send email to who ever needs it, I hope someone could help with my problem

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

There are two shift solenoids in the 4T65EV-GT gearbox. One does the 1 - 2 and 3 - 4 changes the other does the 2 - 3 change. They are the same part number and are accessed by removing the gearbox side cover. That sounds easy enough but the VADIS instructions prove otherwise.

Shop time for gearbox removal is 7.5 hours.

thank you very much i am now about 6 hours into this job and its been a beast! on top oif the fact that the jack points on the car leaves me abit weary due to the fact they are almost locate directly in the middle if the body making me think it would want to tip forward but it seems steady so i will post when complete

Hey well i finished the project and it was a super pain but i will post the exact solenoid number needed for your t-6 gt65ev because it took me 5 days to hunt it down do not order from auto zone they have the wrong solenoid listed and it takes 3 days of shipping so it tends to be a waste of time the actual part is available from ACDELCO i payed 26.99 but i got it from the transmission parts shop called portland tranny you can look them up maybe they could ship it to you but anyways the part number from portland tranny is 24219819 and the number is the same for ACDELCO web page also be carful when releasing the orange clip connecting the solenoid to the wiring it will be brittle and could break like mine and now i have to rip it all apart and reconnect the clip and try to secure it better good luck also i have a alldata account for this car so if you have any questions i can look it up for you and try to help thanks.

Hello every one good news all is well and she is running very fast shifting smooth and it feels great! A hint of advice about this whole job you need to replace all the solenoids at once you do not want to do this more than one time. There are star bolts on the bottom of the gear box that are very unforgiving and after doing this 3 times one of the bolts needed replacing. the shift interlock solenoid I have a Product number for that as well and you can get that from Portland transmission warehouse I talked about them earlier in the post the product number is 41870A in this case im not positive if this is the same from ACDELCO but good luck. Also remember you can only use the gasket for the gear box twice and they are not very cheap from the dealer

ALSO I DID THIS WITH NO EXPERIENCE IN WORKING ON A S80 AND IT IS ACHIEVABLE YOU JUST NEED TO BE PATIENCE

I'm doing the same solenoid replacement to my 99 S80 and was wondering after everything is back together do you just reset the computer or do you have to do some sort of driving thing to set the new solenoids up in the computer?

Well I tried my best not to break the clip on the solenoid connector, but I don't think there is a way not to break them. Haha! How did you end up securing them after they were broken? I was thinking like a little zip tie or something. ??

Bumping this thread because my wife's 99 S70 T5 has the same bad solenoid "2-3 solenoid" code and will not shift into overdrive. It revs into neutral after shifting out of 3rd and then slowly falls back down to 3rd gear.

As long as you stay in the first 3 gears, the car shifts totally fine.


Is this proceedure you listed the same for her car? The car is worth virtually nothing as it sits and if this is a job that I may can tackle in my free time (I've got about a month and a half before I have to do something with it) then I may be willing to give this a shot.
