I have a 2003 XC70 Turbo and need to change plugs. This should be a easy process especially after viewing the step by step pictures which are posted on this site. My regular mechanic told me the plugs would cost $75 plus installation cost. Checking my user manual it identifies plug type for Distributor Ignition System. Mine is not a distributor ignition system but operates on an ignition coil for each plug.
Can anyone tell me what type plug I should use and where I can purchase them??
What does your owners manual say? Mine ('02 XC) says Champions and that is what I use or the equivalent NGKs. Both work great.
'02 V70XC (Ash Gray)-305K kms to-date And a whole tonne of other Euro stuff (Volvo (7), VW (6), MB (1), Audi (3), BMW (2), SAAB (5), Land Rover (4), Porsche (2), Opel (1), MG (1), Mini (2), Sunbeam (1))
The owners manual says Champion, ## i forgot,[model= '2003 V70 2.4T' I bought the car with Volvo plugs, replaced w/ Champ, then went back to Volvo. I like Champion by FAR..see your owners manual. BEST!

Hi, I have a 2002 S40 1.9T, I went to the auto parts shop, asked for some plugs, they gave me some "autofire" ones. I noticed that they were gaped at like .04 instead of the recommended .028, I put them in anyway, and the car was really shaking, like it was misfiring. I put back in the old official volvo ones, and it was back to normal.
So my question is, is the shaking more from the gap, or the inferior plugs? Should I try to get the OEM plugs, or try to gap these autofire ones at the correct distance?
Always use OE plugs from the dealer otherwise you will have strange problems, also use a little never sieze on them. We have fixed many problems doing this and the dealers price is reasonable, make shure you torque them properly. Trust me . Dick K. from Fla.
Since '93, the feedback is always that this motor is sensitive to which plug is used. You cannot go wrong, and you likely can't do better, than the OEM plug. Rather than the stealership, get them from FCP or IPD.

I recently upgraded the Volvo OEM plgs with the NGK Iridium plugs and have noticed just a bit of difference in throttle (placebo) but I can tell you, it runs just a little louder/ rawer with the hotter plug. Barely noticeable, but I love it.
