    S60 Fan Control Module

    Postby Jocelyn198 » 11 May 2011, 19:51

    Hi-
We recently purchased a 2006 Volvo S60 and soon after we purchased it we noticed that a fan was running all of the time and that the AC did not work. We brought it to a mechanic who said that the fan control module needed to be replaced. The part is an expensive part(almost $500) and the mechanic found a used one from a junk yard. We opted to go with the used fan control module. The part was installed today and the car is still doing the same thing. The mechanic said that it could be that a sensor is bad, that the used fan control module is broken, or that it needs to be programmed into the car....he is still researching. Has anyone had this happen before? I would appreciate any help that I could get.
    Thanks!

More then likely, it needs to be programmed to the car. With issues like this, you almost always have to take it to the dealer because they are the only ones that can read the codes for the ECC and program it. When I had my S60R, I could not take it to anyone but the dealer because ever time something change, the computers needed to be programmed. I could not even take it in for an alignment.

the fan control module is not a software containing modle that needs to be programmed.
The Climate Control Module (CCM) may have a problem that causes it to be stuck in Afterblow mode.
Has anyone tried disconnecting the battery ground cable and touching that cable to the pos terminal for 5 seconds and then re-install the cable and see if the problem is resolved.
If the CCM is in afterblow mode the fan will run and all other CCM activity is inhibited.
The CCM may be the fault and a software reload or update if there is one available for your car may be the remedy.

Thanks for the help. Nobody has unplugged the battery yet...do you think that would help the Cooling Fan Module reset itself? I was hoping to have the problem fixed without having to take the car to the dealer but if that is the only solution i will have to. Thanks!
