The compressor on my girlfriend's Volvo has a slight leak in it and needs to be recharged every 6 months or so. Hopefully she'll have the money to replace the compressor at the end of the summer ($1000 job), but for now we'd like to recharge so she can have some air.
I can find the recharge valve on my Toyota fine, but I'm unable to find it on her car.
If someone can help me out I appreciate it. I have to drive around in the car sometimes too and it sucks with it being 95 outside with no air and leather seats!

This is the best I can do:
Connect a can of refrigerant to the hose, then connect the hose to the recharge point, which is located in the engine compartment, under the diagnostic port.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Maybe I need a new eyeglass prescription but I don't see it at first glance.
Where is the data port? The only data port I know of in her car is under the center console.
I'll search around and see if I can find out where that location is.
Thanks again!

I found it!
Weird thing is: there is no dataport in that location on my girlfriend's car. But I believe I found the tap in that location. It is marked 6nm Max. Does this sound right?
Thanks again.

Ah, yea, didn't read the year... your gf's Volvo is OBDII, meaning there is no strange dataport under the hood. It's new enough to have it inside near the ashtray.
Some/all 1995s and newer have this.
Don't know about the valve markings... email me tonite matthew (at) matthewsvolvosite.com to remind me and I'll look in my Haynes manual.

Haynes:
Coolant Capacity:
turbo: 7.6 quarts
non-turbo: 6.4 quarts
type: r-134a
Refridgerant Capacity:
cold climates: 20 ounces
hot climates: 26 ounces
Ok, there's no illustrations in my Haynes manual, and it refers only to high and low (connect only to the low side) sides as if everybody's born knowing which is which.
Sorry, I won't be able to help you with this, but I will make this thread sticky to attract attention to forum-goers. Perhaps someone will chime in that knows.
Or -- take it to an independent Volvo mechanic and ask whoever's behind the counter if they can show you quickly. Most mechanics I've ever spoken to are happy to give out advice.
Good luck, and please let us know which it is!! (A picture is worth a thousand words

I'm about to post a (poor quality) picture right now.
I would take it to the only mechanic in town but I don't know how eager he would be to help me since it would put him out $100
Thanks again for the help Matt!

Here is a quick way to find ANY charge port on ANY a/c system.
The low side of the system where the freon goes is allways the fatest of the two hoses comming off of the compressor. The high side of the system is the smaller of the two. And on a 134a system the low side port is the biger of the two. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention this. If the system has failed the leak should be repaired. And, If you do not pull a complete vacume after the repair your wasteing your time. 134a can be very touchy.I have found that 1/4 lbs either way high or low. Makes a huge differance. Once again. Hope this helps
