MVS Help Page
Welcome to Volvo Information Overload
Well well well, who do we have here? A Volvo owner looking for why the $*%# fill-in-the-blank isn’t working on his Volvo? I’ve got good news for you: you’re at the right website. We’ve got more help in more areas of Volvo ownership over more models than anywhere else on the web. Too much help, maybe. Whatever, you’ll have to take a step back before you dive in. Take a deep breath. Ready?
Search for Volvo Information
Search the Whole Site
If you’re new or need help, you’re on the right page. First off, I assume you’re here to find a fix or repair for your Volvo. Your first action should be to search this site:
Search the Forum
When we say “forum”, we really mean the dozen or so sub-forums that make up the whole experience. The sub-forums are, for example, Volvo S80, Classifieds – Cars, Classifieds – Parts, and so on. You can search each one of those sub-forums, and stuff not in that sub-forum will not show up in the results! To do that, 1. register, 2. log in, then 3. go to the sub-forum you’d like to search (not a topic!). If you’re not logged in you won’t get the search box. If you’re inside a topic you won’t get the search box.
At the top of every sub-forum you’ll have a search box like this one pictured to the left. Type your search in the box and away you go.
Volvo Forum
Another great way to find your answer is to register, then read Rules and Etiquette, and then post a topic in the Volvo Forum. A bonus of registering for the Volvo Forum is that you are able to “Subscribe Topic”, which means when somebody posts to that topic, you’ll get an email alerting you to that fact. Pretty useful.
How to Use The Forum
- Rules and Etiquette (reading this is required!)
- How to Register (screencast movie)
- How to Embed a YouTube Video
- How to Log In
- How to Post a Topic (screencast movie)
- How to Post a Photo (screencast movie)
- What do the topic icons mean?
Account Activation: you must activate your account via EMAIL after registering. If you don’t see the activation email within two minutes, check your junk mail filter. In that email you MUST click the activation link. It’s clearly labeled.
Volvo Repair Database
The third way to get information and help for your Volvo is to use the world-famous Volvo Repair Database. The contents of the VRD are compiled by the MVS Moderators, and are usually the “best of the best” information available here.
So If Those Dont’ Do It…
I don’t know what will. Well, your Volvo dealer will, but for big service bills, plus perhaps several trips to see him. Get your ducks in a row before you go to the dealer, if you must go to the dealer.
We’re not anti-dealer, but rather pro-DIY, so we want to arm you with all the information you can stand. And for free. Nobody gets paid here, except for me, after subtracting the costs incurred in running this place. So if you get help here, thank a Volvo Forum moderator, or an MVS Contributor, or donate or something.
Thanks very much – Matt
