Cylinder Index

[By Ozark Lee ]

We did this a few years ago on the rec.boats usenet group and it was fun.

What is your cylinder index?

In other words, how many cylinders do you own. The only rules are that the items must be running and for personal use – dealers and business applications need not apply.

I’ll kick it off:

1996 Chevy Suburban – 8 cylinders
1996 Volvo 850 – 5 cylinders
1994 Volvo 850 – 5 cylinders
1985 Porsche 944 – 4 cylinders
1989 Cobalt 21 BR Boat – 8 cylinders
1995 Kawasaki 900 zXi Jetski – 3 cylinders
1997 Kawasaki 900 zXi Jetski – 3 cylinders
1970 Kohler 12.5 kW Generator – 4 cylinders
2004 Honda 7.5 kW Generator at the cabin – 2 cylinders
1948 Evenrude 7.5 horsepower outboard motor – 2 cylinders
1955 Firestone 7.5 horsepower outboard motor – 2 cylinders
1970 Evenrude 25 horsepower outboard motor – 2 cylinders
2002 Campbell Hausfeld Power Washer – 1 cylinder
1999 Echo weedeater – 1 cylinder
1999 Macullough chain saw – 1 cylinder
2002 Homelite Leaf Blower – 1 cylinder
1998 Yard Man Lawnmower – 1 cylinder
2001 Yard Man Lawn Mower at the cabin – 1 cylinder

If I tallied it up right I think I have 53 cylinders to deal with.

Proof of jet ski ownership - This one is on my wall of shame.

Got Hit

A week ago a car slid into the back of my 850 in a snowstorm, then left the scene.

Stupidly, but with heavy adrenaline flow affecting my thinking, I followed the Ford mid-size car that hit me.

He pulled over 4 blocks away and got out, rushing up to my car with insurance papers in hand saying he was very sorry and that he did have insurance. He was a young guy, probably 22, and was very contrite, very upset.

I was very level-headed at that point and reassured him that things would be ok, and I wasn’t angry at him.

I got out and looked at the back bumper, and there was no damage.

I told him to forget it, to be careful, and to not flee scenes of accidents, and that was it.
