Volvo P2 R 90k Service Item Checklist
I bought a 2004 V70 R in 2010, and I needed to “baseline” it, get it back to Stage 0. I wanted it to drive like it came right out of the Ghent, Belgium factory like it did in July 2003. After the 90k service listed below, I gave her some Seafoam and new tires. Continue reading

You Just Bought an XC90. Now What?
This is one of the most broad Stage 0s I’ve seen of the XC90 model. MVS Forum user XVTer spent a good deal of time and money baselining his new 2004 XC90 T6. Really interesting read. Continue reading
XC90 T6 Transmission Lawsuit
Owners past and present of model year 2003, 2004, and 2005 Volvo XC90 T6 vehicles equipped with a General Motors transmission may see money this October. Almost two years ago a law firm filed a class-action suit against Volvo. Here at MVS we’ve been railing against buying a XC90 T6 for a good long while, and we continue to shout warnings about the GM transmission in the T6 model from every rooftop we can. Continue reading
2002 Volvo AW55-50SN Transmission Disengages While Driving
The disengagement feels like something is not locking up, like the converter. The disengagement happens more in the city when I am starting and stopping, but it still happens on the freeway. For example on the freeway at 70 mph, the car all of a sudden goes into limp mode or the trans disengages. At this moment, the car starts coasting and I step on the gas, but obviously no response – the rpms goes up slightly to sometimes to 2 or 3000 rpms, and then the car kicks back into gear. This disengagement period happens for a minute or it can go on for 5, or 10 miles. Continue reading
DIY: B4 Servo Cover on a AW50-55 Transmission
This is a common problem with early P2 transmissions. You can buy the cover from iPD, which also has a step-by-step guide. I won’t repeat information in that guide, and please read that guide first, as I reference it. Continue reading
Questions on 2001 Transmission Failure
Within the chassis range, the first 3 digits of the serial number on the affected transmissions are between 01C (March 2001) and 01L (December 2001). IPD suggests a software update (regent noted above) before replacing the B4 Servo Cover. We … Continue reading
Volvo 850 S2 Transmission Solenoid Replacement w/Pics
Additionally, after the cover is removed and cleaned of the old gasket sealant, you still have to get the cover with the new sealant applied back on straight the FIRST time and get your bolts back in. While all this is happening no matter how well you clean off the valve body under the cover, it will keep dripping right onto the area that you want dry for the new sealant, so seconds count. Continue reading
