2012 Volvo XC70 Brochure

Take a look back seven years ago to what Volvo was adding to the features of the XC70 in the 2012 XC70 sales brochure (English).

The list of features available to buyers goes on and on and on, packed with marketing-speak, trademark symbols, acronyms and asterisks. Here’s a list of features and optional equipment I pulled out of this sales brochure:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Personal Car Communicator (PCC)
  • Queue Assist
  • Sensus
  • Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS)
  • Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)
  • Park Assist
  • Driver Alert Control
  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)
  • Active Bending Lights
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake
  • HomeLink® Integrated Garage Door Opener
  • Map Care
  • Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)

As long as it is, it’s not a complete list of options. These are merely the “big name” features… the ones that are likely to have ™ and © symbols.

The features are what makes it a Volvo. Without them, it’s a Swedish Subaru Outback.

Some, like DSTC, are long-time options, available starting with the 1999 S80 and other P2 Volvos. Others are obscure features that even now I don’t recall running across.

Adaptive Cruise Control, Second Generation

Relax and enjoy smooth cruising. The new generation Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)* with Queue Assist goes beyond ordinary cruise control by automatically helping you maintain a safe distance to the car in front. Controlled by advanced radar and camera technology, the ACC detects slower moving vehicles ahead and adapts your speed accordingly. And that’s at any speed – whether in heavy traffic queues or at open-road speeds (0–124 mph). It can even help you keep pace with the car in front from standstill, which can be very convenient in stop-and-go traffic. Having this additional functionality can help save you from the most boring parts of any journey or commute. In this way you can just find your perfect pace through traffic. Included in the optional Technology Package

Want to know more about the P3-era XC70? Here’s a good forum topic with opinions and input from owners on the two different platforms — P2 vs. P3 — of the Volvo XC70. And of course Wikipedia has good info.
