ALL 2001 trannies eventually go bad, they’re junk?

Let’s talk 2001 trannies

2001 Volvo transmissions are notoriously bad. Here’s what you can do.

If the software was upgraded a while ago and the stop neutral was removed, you have a chance! Of course not every single ’01 tranny lets go, (just about 75% of them)! You may be one of the lucky ones and it will be fine. Have you checked the condition (and color) of the fluid?

Had the software upgrade done on mine last week. Made a world of difference. Should be done on every car.

I just bought a 2001 v70 xc with 130k and non working tranny. $800 bucks seemed like a good price, but not if the trannys keep going out on me.

My question is, what other years will fit my 2001?
Would a 2002-2004 fit me car?

I just bought a 2001 V70XC and while I got a good deal on it am worried now that I have been driving it for about a month. The service records are impecable on this car but I have noticed that after I drive the car a while (especially on the freeway) when I slow down it hards shifts in the lower gears. Is the tranny going bad? How much is the software upgrade that was mentioned? How much is a typical tranny rebuild? Any help would be appreciated.
