My dad has a 1997 850. He replaced the factory installed radio with an Alpine CVA-1005 GPS. The GPS also contains an FM and AM radio. The FM radio works fine, but the AM radio does not. We've been to several places for help (Volvo, audio stores). We are told that there is some sort of proprietary AM antenna built into the Volvo that will only work with a Volvo radio, and that any other type of AM radio (like the one in the GPS) will not work. We've even tried putting a portable AM radio in the car, but it stops working in the car (the body of the car sheilds reception).

Is there a solution?
Is there an adapter to put between the antenna and the GPS? Is there a half-height Volvo radio we can put beneath the GPS?Can we install a whip antenna and run it to an AM radio?

Thanks.

Glenn
