Well I have a '95 850 Turbo and I have the same problem. It's very disconcerting. This is what I have figured out.The only time it happens to me is when I drive around town and make a bunch of stops at places. When I went to start my car after several stops it would fire up and then just quit. Twice it has stalled when I have been on the road. After my 120,000 mile service it got a lot better (I also changed my driving habits) but I just happened again to me the other day. I beleive what is happening is that carbon deposits are building up. I have begun to make sure I get my car on the highway and leave it in second gear or just do whatever it takes to get the car above 4000 RPMS for a couple minutes to keep everything clean.
I used to travel a lot more on the highways so this was never a problem, so i'm not sure if some part is just getting old and needs to be replaced, or this is a problem with the motor itself. I do know it has always run better when driven hard on a consistant basis.
If you figure any out let me know, and I will do the same.
