You might be able to knock off a thousand or so. I have an '96 850 (non-turbo)in Canada. Great car. I've had it now for about 2 years. No major problems and I put 150 miles on it a day! I've had to change the brake pads and added freon to the air conditoner, but nothing major. The most expensive tune up on the 850 comes at about the milage you're looking at, so one way to bargain is to insist that the car go through that overhaul before you buy. That should save you a good $500-$800. The inspection includes oil change & filter, drain plug gasket replacement, spark plugs, air filter, replacement of flame trap and housing cleaning, cleaning of throttle body unit and new gasket, coolant change and transmission oil, check for fluid leaks, battery condition, alternator output, engine mounts and bushings, suspension & brake check, handbrake operation, greasing of steering knuckles, check of lights and wipers, lubrication of door hinges and antenna mast, and replacement of fuel filter among other things. Also, check when the timing belt needs to be changed. If they do that for you as well, you save another few hundred bucks (I had the timing belt changed around 85,000 miles). Good luck. |
