A really popular reason for you problem is if the sensor on the flywheel is going bad. It sends a signal to the computer that says the engine is turning and needs ignition and fuel. The sensor fails, and the ignition is cut. Does your tach drop right to zero when it stalls as if it's been shut off by the key? That would support that diagnostic.
