| I bought a three and a half year old S40 1.9TD with 100,000 miles on clock last year. After a few months it began to rev itself up to around 2500-3000 rpm whilst idling and then settle down again. This is sometimes accompanied by a metallic 'knocking' sound and a bit of blue/grey smoke from the exhaust. The car is now five years old and is at 125,000 miles. This revving been going on for about a year now and is becoming more frequent. The car was under 5 year warranty when I bought it and this has just run out. In this time it has been in three times to two separate main dealers to no avail. Timing has been checked, no ECU fault codes, air valves and solenoids have been swapped and reinstalled, compression appears equal across all cylinders. All dealers have ever told me was to 'let fault develop'. Anyone else had similar problems or got any ideas?? Any suggestions much appreciated. |
