the mildue smell comes from the stagnet water from the evaporator since you did not specify what kind of volvo. Some have a feature called after blow where the fan/blower comes on by itself after you shut the car off at a specified time and length. the system can be implmented although costly to cars not equiped. other steps inc. turning off a/c just before ariveing at your des. but keeping the blower on. some commercal anti fungal oder sprays also work if used following the instructions on the can temp keep can handy
