Re: 98 v70: fail to start when cold
For general reference information, Antlers, OK would have been about 35 F this morning. volvolugnut It was 82F/65F on Friday and 50F/33F yesterday (Sunday). I recently found an Oklahoma meme that shows the days of the week with the same person per day. One day hes in tshirt/shorts, next day a winte...

Re: difference between the 740 and 940?
on Youtube the 200 series was unreliable. That seems contrary It is not unreliable. It is bone simple in most of it's forms. You had to keep them tuned, yes, this is normal for any car of the era. In the 740-940 era, there are NA redblock fours, there are turbo fours, there are straight sixes (960?...

Re: difference between the 740 and 940?
The 900-series were a little longer at 7cm and about 1cm wider, making exterior trim/bumpers/grille/etc. non-compatible between the two. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5246 https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-740-760-780-700-series/ 940 base engine was more powerful tha...

Re: difference between the 740 and 940?
That's a great history, Matt! And good old Jan Wilsgaard designed the 122 and the 850, I'm always amazed by that.
I would steer away from anything with that PRV V6. The 740 turbo wagon was a nice car. The 16V twincam four was a sweet engine.

Re: difference between the 740 and 940?
Oh sure enuf, I AM wrong. Look at these two wiki panels of engines - The 940 engines are all red block based, B200s, B230s. The B234F is the 16V twincam. 940 engines.jpeg Then the 960 engines.... B200s, the twincam 16V, B230, the PRV V6, then the B6244/6254 is an I-6 and when you click on that link,...

Re: difference between the 740 and 940?
Sounds like you made the right choice. I wouldn't take out a loan on an old car. Despite not wanting another whiteblock I did for a little bit consider a 98 s70 base model (base no options at all) with 30K miles for $11K. That was tempting but I dont want to mess with it. 11kis 2x too much for that.

Re: 98 v70: steer me to the steering rack replacement topic
I've used the Edelmann kit and it seems to be working well enough. I would disassemble the pump first because it the vanes are broken or the body is too heavily scarred then it's a tosser. Be warned that the pump body is spring loaded against the retaining lock ring. Also, carefully note the positio...

Re: 98 v70: steer me to the steering rack replacement topic
Pumps I believe had only 2 options on P80's. -98 which had the integrated pump and tank, and 99- with the separate tank. The racks up to 97 (850's) were mostly all TRW as I recall. SMI became the main used one after 97 in the V/S/C70's but both were used and hence the 'code' 4 or 5 to identify. What...
