Re: 1997 850 GLT Engine Swap

I dont have experience with this, but you would think any 96 or 97 and possibly 98 and 99 t5 would plug right in with a 96 or 97 computer from a t5. 95 engine would work but you would have to illuminate the EGR.

Re: 1997 850 GLT Engine Swap

Yes, the B5234T is a direct swap for your 1997 GLT. You'll want to try to find one from the same model year, although a 1998 S70 or V70 T5 or HPT C70 should be the same. Being a 1997, I'm assuming this is a Motronic 4.4 car, so a 1998 shouldn't be any different from a 1997 2.3. You could use a 1999+...

Re: 1997 850 GLT Engine Swap

The AC in the '97 GLT doesn't play nice with any other M4.4 ECUs. At least not that I discovered.

If you don't care about AC, and are planning on using an N HPT engine, then just throw a '98 HPT ECU in there.

Re: 1997 850 GLT Engine Swap (M4.3 M4.4 AC compatability issue)

Search on car-part.com. There may be one listed nearby. Also check lkqonline.com. Most places will also ship it to you if you can't find one locally.
Of course if you can find one someone's selling privately, that would be ideal!

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Engine Swap

Most parts should swap over. Not sure why IPD swaybars won't swap over. Turbos are often thicker but not sure in this case. If you move over the front IPD sway bar, you may want to look at the polybush the use. They are supposed to be greased frequently. Can't recall the brand name but there is a ve...

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Engine Swap

Was the AC working on the '97 GLT with the ARD tune? Was it actually an M4.4 upgrade? When we were doing an ECU swap in the wife's '97 GLT (Which is actually M4.4) using the VolvoSpeed 98MY M4.4 flashable bins, there were AC issues (As in it didn't work). The '97 GLT AC routines were different from ...

Re: 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Engine Swap

Chuck's T5 tune may work in your car if the ARD ECU doesn't play nice with your A/C? Keep in mind it's only the A/C here, so it is fair to assume it works since you were running it before. However the fuel map may be for the GLT engine. Anyway, not sure where in Iowa you are located but I'd be willi...
