The high pitched whine would indicate that the motor is coming up to speed. It's not likely two different starters have bad Bendixs (although it has been known to happen). Maybe your ring gear is bad. Can you take the starter off and look through the opening? See if you can see any damaged teeth on ...

Hi Otis, I haven't removed the transmission from an S80 however from my understanding you need to do a lot more than what you are doing. The whole subframe will need to be dropped in order to break the engine/transmission union. Another method is to pull the engine only from the top and replace the ...
