Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I received my parts and gaskets yesterday. I lapped the valves last night and installed them w/ new valve stem seals tonight. I cut the heads off of two of the old head bolts to use as guide pins for when I put it back together on Saturday. I installed new float needles and re-baselined the carbs. I...

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I drove it around for a while. I probably put 10 miles on it a little while ago. It did fine, but I think my pickup tube in the gas tank is gone. Under 1/2 a tank, no gas. I guess if it can’t be resolved from the outside, I’ll have to get a new tank. 5 gallons until fill up will get me around town a...

Neil.
Yes, it’s from a 140 series. I found it in a junk yard a month ago and saw gold.

xHeart - It’s in Richmond, VA.

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I had a clicking noise coming from the differential. I took apart the diff carrier assembly and noticed that the thrust washers for the side gears (axle gears) were warped. I replaced those thrust washers and the ones for the smaller planetary gears, along with the larger pivot pin. I spider gears a...

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I bought enough dye to do the whole car. I’ve done the rear seat now. I took the door cards off to dye them and re-do the cards themselves. I found Leo’s signature and date that I’m assuming is when he made new door panels. 😀

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I bought 1/8” tempered hardboard. I have all the vinyl removed from the old panels and traced them to the new hardboard. The holes in the doors did not have a moisture barrier at all and all the weather stripping is shot. I bought some butyl tape and some 2mm plastic sheeting and will do those up li...

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I had the same issue with a 123 GT I had. It only recorded 300 miles for a 400 mile trip. Couldn't understand whay I was overtaking everything on the highway!!   That car had the O/D manual trans removed and replaced with a regular 4 speed manual. They had optional drive gears for...

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I drove it over to my girlfriends house and he is running great. I re-timed the engine and tweaked the carbs a little. I’m feeling the full power band through higher revs. The new exhaust is adding a few extra HP’s as well. I finally took some pictures out in the sunlight.

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

I replaced the front and back springs. I also replaced the upper and lower ball joints in the front since I had to take it all apart. Huge difference in the springs, pics below, but really only about an inch total in ride height.

Re: I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

Watch out for wear on the brass rings in the trans. They can make the change baulky/crunchy. Neil. I bought a handful of parts not knowing what I may need. Right now, the trans shifts smooth and I can hop gears downshifting. All the shifting functions and synchronizers seem to be real good. I don’t...
