1987 244 Volvo revival

I have owned this white with blue cloth interior 244 since about 1997. It has sat unused for several years after a fuel tank gunk issue. My wife really likes this car and has pressured me to get it running again and rejoin the available fleet. Last fall I got the cleaned up fuel tank installed. The ...

Re: 1987 244 Volvo revival

Another nice weather day for Volvo revival. I removed the fuel pressure gauge, and started the car to warm up. Engine started immediately. I replaced the brake light bulb holder and added a new 1057 bulb. No more bulb out warning light. I tried to replace the wiper blades, but found none of my stash...

Re: 1987 245 Daily Driver Project

Sounds like good thorough list. All the “Stage 0” baseline tuneup stuff is good. Were cleaning injectors / o-rings in there? You’ve got most of them listed, but I would reiterate changing all rubber - fuel, vacuum lines, brake lines, suspension bushings. When you do the oil spray on the bottom, do y...

Re: 1987 245 Daily Driver Project

Consider:
Driveshaft U-joints and center bearing condition. There is a rubber support in the center bearing that may have sagged.
Brake hoses (as mentioned above).
Silicone sealer does not last well as a windshield sealer. I tried it. Butyl rubber may be better.

Re: 1987 245 Daily Driver Project

The Volvo wagon will be much more solid and has room to sleep in the back with the seat folded. Try that with a Corolla or Civic.
Reman fuel injectors are available for about $35 from FCP. They have good ratings.
Do you have a paper repair manual yet?

Re: Good oil choice for the 2.3 red-block Penngrade 1 30W

Fine for you folk in southern climes, but it is going to be just above zero tonight up here - not sure a straight 30wt would allow a start tomorrow morning! They make 5W30 among other multi-grade offerings. Interestingly enough at 55° ambient temperature it poured easily. I expected it to be thicke...

Re: Fuel pump relay question?

Bentley manual says you should be able to hear a buzzing sound at the fuel filler opening when the engine is running IF the in tank pump is running. There is also a fuse (#4?) for the in tank pump. You can also lift the carpet in the trunk and test the current to the in tank pump. Your pump should h...

Re: 740 shock and strut extra parts question

. Not an expert or familiar with 740's but did have an ASE in Suspension and Steering. Good test taker . From looking at all the different offering on CariD and the explanation of the design they should be the same. FCP I think would provide a caution if not a warning if you required additional...
