Re: DIY Tutorial: Adding aftermarket center console switches (under climate controls) 05-09
Thank you for confirming this! I am tempted to add the aux switch and a second switch for keeping the lights on. Will splice a line into the ground for the aux power line and connect it to a high power relay. That way power can be selected between the two switches. Will draw it later.

Re: DIY Tutorial: Adding aftermarket center console switches (under climate controls) 05-09
thank you so much for sharing and for the feedback! It's great to hear we can add aux lights without software mods. Did you have to pay a lot to update your CCM? I assumed that we'd need some software update to add any features to the CCM, but it's nice the aux lights work without update, my dad mi...

Re: Radio getting hot/cold? Or weak airflow? Your HVAC vent is possibly leaking
All your foam seals are disintegrated from age and heat. I was doing a full HVAC overhaul 2 or 3 years ago, had to replace all the seals. Your best shot is to buy 1/4"x1/2" foam tape, pull the vents and fix it. You'll be washing your hands for the next few days, trying to get rid of the ro...

Re: DIY Ball Joint Installation Tool
The key thing with using PVC pipe coupler: - Tighten the 2 bolts just a bit. Maybe one full turn just to keep the outer edges down. - Then tap the PVC pipe a bit - Then tighten the 2 bolts a bit more... etc etc This way the bj goes in evenly. I don't recommend the PVC round cap, it can shatter with ...

Re: DIY Ball Joint Installation Tool
I did many ball joints with nothing but chisel and PVC pipe, and never needed something better suited. I always use aluminum anti-seize in there as there's a dissimilar metals contacting in the presence of salt water (in New England).

Re: DIY Ball Joint Installation Tool
I used 2" galvanized pipe with a matching cap, put the ball joint in the freezer, tapped it in nice and straight. No pulling with the bolts.
Done.
Sideways photos, sorry.

Re: DIY Ball Joint Installation Tool
Last control arm job I did, on the green XC70, I could not get the old ball joint out from one side even after pounding it over and over with the air hammer. Started to chew up the knuckle all around it. I gave up and put it back in, maybe will need to get a new knuckle in order to get a new ball jo...
