Main or rod bearing. It doesn’t really matter which, it’s a tear down

Engine swap would make more sense. T2 is plentiful and cheap.

This underscores the importance of checking oil level every 1,000 or 1,500 miles in the 2.5T engines. Simply bc these 2 5T engines consume ~ 1 qt every 1,500 miles or so. Virtually all cars have oil PRESSURE sensors, some do not have oil LEVEL sensors. Many BMW have oil LEVEL sensor, but the P2 cars...

Ouch.

Regular low knock knock knock at idle is usually main bearings. A higher pitched clatter as you rev it up is usually rod bearings.

But as Abscate said, it doesn’t matter.

Any B5254T2 engine would work. It was used in S60, V70, S80 and XC90. No model year compatibility issue, no ECU coding required. On top of other routine checks&updates, like PCV and t-belt, I would advise replacing the rear main seal and exhaust manifold gaskets/studs while the engine is out. It...
