The O-rings between the oil pan and block that feeds oil to the head fail with age. It may also be the oil pump seals failing as well.

I am trying to remember if they are standard o rings or if the have a special profile

Cold oil is thick and that pressure doesn’t seem out of line. An air cooled VW with a puny oil pump will run 50-60 psi at cold start.
