Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
I washed the Volvo last night, using some "ceramic" shampoo, gave it a nice shine. Today I kept going at it, focused on the plastic trim which had faded. I went at it using a product called Sonax Plastic Restorer. Not silicone based. Some before/after shots: https://i.imgur.com/ir7eR7Yh.jp...

Re: Broken retaining clip on CV joint - 1997 850
Nah this CV joint must come off... Now that I know there's a broken part it will not get back on ever. Worst case is me taking the angle grinder the CV joint and splitting it in two to save the shaft. I've put a pick under the ring to lift it, but it only lifts it at that location, because a part of...

Re: Broken retaining clip on CV joint - 1997 850
Got it out. Bent and pried the ring out then pulled it out with some pliers https://i.imgur.com/qgLK7Bah.jpg Then I got the last bit with a slide hammer, the best tool I've ever made. The cheap pick and scribe set was just as good a purchase, without them I wouldn't have gotten the ring pried out en...

Re: I spotted a Volvo! thread
I had to go to the supermarket for some lunch today and there was a red Volvo 740 with swedish license plates and old style S sticker on it (cars had to have these before EU license plates), looked real neat. I parked my blue 850 behind it, I was curious to see what kind of owner had a car like this...

Re: I spotted a Volvo! thread
It's on the same channel, but it's really inscrutable to anyone who doesn't speak the language.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Yesterday I welded in the patch and ground down down the weld. There are probably a few things that still need to be welded that I thought I would do after I got the main piece in. I can feel some distortion on the panel above the patch, going a bit wavy, I can't see it though, I've been using hamme...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
I've been sanding and grinding so long, that even my mama thinks my mind is gone. https://i.imgur.com/IWzbeXdh.jpg Now it's almost ready for paint, epoxy base coat to start with. This was much harder than welding, and I got frustrated and started all over twice. In the end I developed some new techn...

Re: Volvo 850 roof trim (1997) question
I have got them now and they look identical to my 850 trim except whole of course. Will be an improvement. I've got the metal fasteners in rust converter for now.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Started with the base coat, finally. I just did the drop coat after these were taken. I've prepped a lot for this, high build primer, got blocked down, then I put another layer of epoxy as a sealer over that and I wet sanded it with P600 paper https://i.imgur.com/hiMVQe1h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bhz...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Fenders are back on the car. Put some wax based rust proofing on the rear before I put them back. I have wet sanded and polished the fenders to reduce some of the orange peel. I effed up majorly when polishing on the lower edge of the repair and the clear coat let go. I managed to save it by repaint...
