Re: '01 V70 Coolant Debacle
With a new-to-you car, its good to start at Stage 0 and run all the old coolant out with water, and replace with fresh Volvo stuff. With a car with a bad radiator, someone has probably been topping it off with all kinds of stuff available at inopportune times. A jug of Volvo from FCP will cost you $...

Re: '01 V70 Coolant Debacle
Those bleeders are really high quality and I have never broken one, but I dont go under to flush coolant. Drop the air guide, remove the lower radiator hose and dump the old coolant. Now put a garden hose into the reservoir and idle the engine for 15 minutes with the hose slightly overflowing the co...

Re: '01 V70 Coolant Debacle
Sorry, left that out. I have found with both the P80 and P2 platforms if you flush, then dump the water, it will leave about 5 liters of space for a jug of coolant concentrate. That will take you pretty close to the 50-50 mix, which is fine for any of the 48 States. Canada and Alaska might run a bit...

Re: '01 V70 Coolant Debacle
Welcome to MVS, cham.
IIRC, the concentrate:water doesn't scale linearly in freeze protection. It's an irregular curve. Meaning 100% concentrate has worse protection than proper mix.

Welcome to MVS, cham. IIRC, the concentrate:water doesn't scale linearly in freeze protection. It's an irregular curve. Meaning 100% concentrate has worse protection than proper mix. Good point Matthew, also the coolant doesn't hold as many BTU's as the water so is less efficient at removing heat.

Re: '01 V70 Coolant Debacle
Welcome to the magic of boiling point elevation. There are not meaningful differences in thermal capacity between water and coolant and mix, but the boiling point elevation is near optimal at 50-50. That being said, in temperate VA you dont have to worry about this, extreme temperatures are desert a...

Re: '01 Idle Stumble/Surges
First of all, you need a solid battery in the ETM cars first them to run, so pony up the $150 and put thst to bed. It has to have 12.5 volts at rest, not 12.2 The software update from Volvo did just extend error range tolerance so they wouldn’t have to replace throttle bodies on warranty. The best s...

Re: '01 Idle Stumble/Surges
I believe you are starting at the wrong end here. You are concentrated on throtle body without first addressing basic maintenance which is well overdue likely given 150k. Spark plugs, fuel and air filter, clean MAF, perform "glove test" for PCV system-it is more reliable than looking for o...

Re: '01 Idle Stumble/Surges
A used latest iteration throttle body is the way to go. A good buyer will list what car it came from. Try to match your purchase to your car flavo(u)r
NA
Low pressure turbo XC GLT
High pressure turbo T5 R
The latest ETM is non-contact and seems to be universal software

Re: XC70 3.2 Correct Idle Speed
I would not stress about it. More cylinders-more balanced work of the engine and thus needs lesser idling speed. Older v70 where 5cyl so 800-850 would be a good number. Not surprised to see 650rpm on 6cyl (3.2 6cyl).
