Re: '01 Idle Stumble/Surges
There was a recall for the 2001 electric radiator fans: https://www.tsbsearch.com/Volvo/SMB-26-141 There are also problems with the voltage regulator for the alternator but it is replaceable with the updated design (only worth doing separately if the bearings are still smooth): https://www.fcpeuro.c...

Re: AW55/50 Dipstick Oil Level
For clean ATF level checking, I try to get fluid warm and check with temperature gun on top of case. Then I remove the dip stick and wipe with clean cloth (best to use lint free). Then I put the drip stick fully into the tube and remove carefully. Then I use a white cloth or paper pressed against th...

Re: AW55/50 Dipstick Oil Level
The dipstick is a bit of a poor design in that when you remove it it often smears the oil on the dipstick with oil in the tube. You may have to try it a few times to see if it is consistent.

Make it open on both ends and long enough to get in the transmission and extend out to where you can reach the outer end. The tube should be straight when at rest. Make a tape mark th...

Re: AW55/50 Dipstick Oil Level
The Volvo dealer wanted me to check the ATF level on my 00 V70R after they did a trans flush. The 00R and the 00 NA were the first to get the 5-speed auto trans. It is hard to find the dipstick as it is hidden below the cold intake pipe and again lower down it is sandwiched between the engine and ho...

Re: AW55/50 Dipstick Oil Level
Little update here, lifted the front ever so slightly and checked oil level again because of my sagging suspension with negligible change. So I decided to drain some yesterday night and ended up removing about 1.5 cups of oil. Photos below are the resulting level after removing the fluid. Still a l...

Re: AW55/50 Dipstick Oil Level
Not sure what you mean by threshold being tripped but this is an age counter normal to the TCM. As the fluid ages the computer has certain variables that indicate its aging which it "counts" and will adjust parameters to keep shifting as optimal as possible over time. This is normal for w...

Re: Replaced PCV Diaphragm Weird Noise
Pull the oil stick to break the crankcase vacuum and see if the noise stops. If so, something went wrong with your diaphragm install in my opinion.
