Refreshing Volvo XC70 (P3) Front Suspension -Tips
I’ve been planning to change/refresh the front suspension of our 2011 XC70 (original owner) with 210K KM for some time and finally got chance to get it done this past Summer and I would like to share my experience with fellow Volvo P3 owners who inspired me to get it done. What got me wanting to ref...

Montana to Colorado and back
1800 mile winter trip across Montana and Wyoming. Dawn patrol. As we drove east up the (Lewis &) Clark Fork River through Hellgate Canyon, it was cold, but the river was warmer and made a thick fog. Slow going, too dark and sketchy for photos. There was a big moon and a sliver of light across th...

Re: Simple question; is there a simple answer?
The rear differential grease is API GL-5 / SAE 80 W. Volvo part number 1161620.
The API GL-5 / SAE 75W-90 for the angle gear will do just fine. Volvo part number 31259380 or equivalent.

Re: Simple question; is there a simple answer?
1) If you can get 80w-90, it will be a little more robust than 75w-90. However, the 75w-90 will work. It's the same concept as motor oil - get the narrowest viscosity spread that suits your climate/application. Apples-to-apples, an 80w-90 will be more robust and last a bit longer in the same way a 1...

Re: Bolt grades and bolt head disambiguation
Matt,
Here is a table of typical torque value for a Bolt into steel dry or with anti seize and also for Aluminum.
I believe that this is for a Grade 8 bolt.
Thanks
Paul

Re: Simple question; is there a simple answer?
In both cases there is only a fill plug and no drain plug. I had to use a pump to suction out the oils and refill. Neil. Yeah, it's a pain. There are how-tows out there on how to add a drain plug. I don't recommend it. This past summer I got inspired and I drilled and tapped a drain plug into the f...

Re: I've got a benign cyst in my brain...
Hi Matt, I am truly sorry to hear this. But it sounds like you are getting well informed to make smart decisions.
Nevertheless, you will be in my prayers.

Re: I've got a benign cyst in my brain...
In my ongoing battle with the exceedingly rare form of cancer I'm fighting, I've been lucky enough to have been treated by the very surgeon who developed the procedure now in use around the world; follow up care is being handled locally by one of the finest Doctors I've ever known - and he's in the ...
