Re: 2004 V70 T Seems NGK IX Iridium Spark Plugs Caused/contribute to CEM Codes Limp Mode

Surface gap plugs and the older Bosch with the teeny weenie platinum wire electrode are the only plugs I have seen these engines not like when they are at correct gap. They don't like Volvo correct for application plugs if someone gaps them wider. The CEM doesn't give a hoot about plugs but if you h...

Re: XC70 3.2 - Should I Rule It Out

If it has the excessive oil consumption issue it will show up by 50 K miles or before. The engine, like almost all others, uses low tension friction reducing rings. Oil sludge from long drain intervals, when the operating conditions don't support long drain, causes oil depositss in ring grooves to b...

Re: XC70 3.2 - Should I Rule It Out

That it has that milage in 9 years would lead me to believe it was no 3 miles at a time school bus. It likely is good. The oil filler grate keeps you seeing a lot but if it has some deposits that is normal but 1/4 inch or more of g=sludge would cause me some pause.

Re: 1998 S90 alternator output

That Volvo should have output like your Honda. The Mercedes has a controlled alternator that gets regulated by the engine control module like newer Volvos. The newer car (mid 2000's and newer for many makes) alternators will have outputs in the upper 14 V range at times and will go to very low charg...

Re: Rear Camshaft Position Aperture '00 V70xc - Does orientation matter?

Yes it matters. There are likely 3 notches on the back of cam on that year and with the corresponding 3 in the sintered iron profile wheel it can only go on one way. If not then look and you will see that two notches are perfectly inline because they were made by one cutter tool but they are not cen...

Re: 1998 S90 alternator output

13.7 would be target after a few minutes. Initially it should be close to 14 if not a few tenths more. When the load is 75% +/- of the alternator capacity with adequate RPM the voltage will begin to slip below 13.7. If you have lower voltage then set meter to AC V and check to see if the AC voltage ...

Re: V8 overheating engine 2010 180K km

Water pump is WAY down the list and would be huge waste. The water pump would only fail if you had a cooling system with SEVERE corrosion with rust and seriously murky coolant. The radiator and heater cores would rot through and leak before the impeller in water pump corroded away so that it diminis...

Re: V8 overheating engine 2010 180K km

Thanks for the additional info, the cooling fan controller is something I have replaced several of on S80 and the related P3 models for overheating. That is odd. If the fans can be run by ECM for a/c pressure and the ECM is signalling the over temp warning then you may have a failed water pump. I ha...

Re: Air Conditioning Troubleshooting Help

First. If they only checked it idling then don't go back there. EVERY MANUFACTURER HAS YOU ELEVATE ENGINE SPEED for a/c evaluation. 250 psi is not high when vehicle is hot inside and ambient temp is 90 or more and cooling fans are working and the compressor is being turned fast enough to produce hig...

Re: Climate Temp Sensor Fan Stays Running?

It runs when you open the door and network wakes up. Open the door and then use something to close the latch and wait 15 minutes and come back and it should be off and when you pull outside handle it comes on. I put LED interior lights in the 2004 I had and the interior lights were on very dimly unt...
