Crazy... but... How about drill into the housing near filter, tap a thread there to use as a plug later after getting a flexible magnet recovery tool in there then insert bolt/plug. Obviously a chemical to dissolve the clog is still best.

Just got the starter installed today. Seems to have fixed the intermittent hard start.
Made a 3 hour trip and had no issues restarting the car at any of my stops.

Thanks for the additional input. The shop called today and said a stuck fuel injector is to blame. Simply replacing that cylinder's injector will resolve the problem.
