Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
The rod caps are cracked, or fractured, in a way that they must go back exactly as they came out. They are ruined if you chose the wrong 1 of 2 orrpientations and tighten the journal bolts

Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
You measured the side clearance and it is as it should be. The side clearance of rod to piston is looser than the .010' you measured for big end. That side motion is not your problem so put that out of your mind. I left "cap" out. You need to inspect rod bearings and the risk is greatest th...

Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
NO, The tightening procedure for rod cap bolts is to torque them and then turn them 90 degrees. Don't do 22 ft-lbs plus 90 degrees (1/4 turn) ,do 22 ft-lb plus 45 degrees (1/8 turn). You want a plastigage measurement and the rods will close up without doing the full bolt rotation that stretches the ...

Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
Don't worry about it. I know of many of these engines that have had to rod bolts re-used multiple times.

Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
Volvo recommended procedure is short hair or foam paint roller application. The anaerobic sealant is used on machine close fit pieces for sealing and structural integrity. Thick IS NOT BETTER. NOT 1-2 mm!! (silicone/RTV sealant is used in that thickness on flat surfaces) If you do more than a thick ...

Re: Acceptable Amount of Lateral Rod Bearing play
That is the air purge from oil filter housing. If you take the roll pin out the metal piece inside looks like a tear drop. Air won't push its weight upward but oil will. The oil pressure relief valve that controls the maximum oil pressure is part of the oi pump and you remove oil pump and then remov...

Re: Dual VVT motor into single VVT car?
The vvt cam has only the one bolt hole and non vvt have the three at a different location relative to front of head. The hole in head is much larger as the vvt sticks into head where non vvt cam sticks out of head and seal rides on the cam. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get $1500 for the engi...

Re: Chasing a P0014 (and maybe my tail?) on a 2001 V70XC
Does this P0014 sound most like a VVT timing advance issue? And if that is the case, would replacing the VVT solenoid be the best place to start? Camshaft reset valve (solenoid) is slow. Check the wiring, Oil pressure and Oil quality before you start throwing money at it. These engines are picky ab...

Re: Chasing a P0014 (and maybe my tail?) on a 2001 V70XC
Without VIDA you can’t tell if the solenoid is working correctly. The Ohm test is a rudimentary diagnostic and not definitive for a good part Try a junkyard part replacement, with a new gasket. Inspect connector wiring carefully There is a chassis break ON this part in 2001 so you need To order/ sea...
