Re: Request for advice, timing belt quandry

That’s a tough one. I’m still a bit jaundiced ftom my experience with a brand new iNA tensioner taking out a new cylinder head on my T5 in 3000 miles. Certainly worth watching

Hey, have you moved? Have you always been a west coast guy/gal?

Re: Request for advice, timing belt quandry

Are you 100% sure the issue is the timing belt? Have you confirmed that by removing the serpentine belt and running the engine for a short time to see if the noise goes away? The reason I suggest this is I had an issue like this and it was the tensioner for the serpentine belt that failed after the ...

Re: Request for advice, timing belt quandry

That belt is junk, get it out of there and use Genuine Volvo or Continental. All pulleys should be INA or Genuine. Water pump should be Aisin or Genuine. Nothing else is worth risking your engine for a couple bucks savings. The cheap aftermarket belts love to walk like that. When you re-do it, check...

Re: Request for advice, timing belt quandry

What brand is the water pump? That almost sounds like the failed one I removed from an 850 that a repair shop said the noise was a bad rod, but it was a bad water pump bearing. The only other suggestion is a time consuming one of swapping each part and seeing if the sound goes away. You could swap 2...

Re: Request for advice, timing belt quandry

The Aisin pumps are great, I highly doubt it’s the issue. Same with the idler or tensioner if they’re INA, which is what the Genuine parts are. New belt and you should be good.

Re: How are my cylinders looking?

Buy the stem seals in the kit, not by the piece. Since you live in the Health Care side of the Atlantic , you can get them from Skandix.de pretty cheaply

The kit has both the seals and the little protective nipples if you choose the sadistic path of doing the stem seals with the head on
