Railroad inspection cars
Some folks call them Hi-Line, may have been a brand name for conversions. Most were fabbed in-house; if you can keep a railroad engine going ... Chieftain Fairmont Hy-Rail.jpg Saw a really cool mid-40s Buick at the narrow gauge museum above the Coors plant in Golden decades ago, couldn't find a pic ...

Re: Car Buying Maximalism
IMHO taxes should be absolutely linked to vehicle weight, without moronic congressional loopholes to help GM, Ford, and Ram (Stellantis), which were engineered by their lobbyists (read: the usual, normalized practice of bribing congress members). "But Matt, surely you can't be saying there are ...

Re: Lesson learned (Ignition Coil Purchase)
Stick to Bosch.
Or get the used Genuine coils from junk yard ($10/ea in my area). Test one by one (label them as "checked").
This way you know the used coil is ready to be used, if necessary.

Re: Does anyone repair ECC modules?
You can’t just publish a site and tell people to read the directions and then capture the cash in garbage bins? 😀😀😀 I'm a middle-aged dude trying to limit my contact with people, or at least what a lot of people have become. It used to be a smooth operation up until maybe 5 years ago. That's when I...

The car year 2023 In review
It wasn’t too bad a year for big stuff. I ended up about $6500 poorer thanks to FCZp but that included a lot of non-fleet work for other nATo drivers Biggest expense was two cats for the Bavarian Money waster, luckily on sale from FCP. The Kat ran great except when I ran her out of fuel, twice. Dumm...

Re: After -10, you just die faster
A friend can’t start his new diesel VW wagon. Killed a battery trying. Fuel gelled up? Last diesel anything I’ve touched was a Peugeot 504 wagon with glow plugs. I have an old magnetic block heater that grabs anything steel, took that over. It’s heating against a fuel distribution cylinder and seems...

Re: Us air washed their plane 15 years ago
The wiki and other reports tell me both engines were severely damaged by Canadian Geese and would not be able to restart. The checklist was 3 pages long and they couldn’t get through it. The Airbus computer-guided controls helped maintain stability while they attempted restart, but Sully remarked it...
