Re: Large Evaporative Emissions Leak 1998 V70 non-turbo

I have a '97 855 light pressure turbo wagon so this may not apply to your situation, but I also have the charcoal canister in the left front fender so there may be some similarities. Here are the other parts of my car besides the charcoal canister hoses that have failed and caused an evap code: the ...

Re: Large Evaporative Emissions Leak 1998 V70 non-turbo

I have a 98 V70 NA and found the rubber connections around the rollover valve had rotted and needed replacement. As jreed mentioned there is an evap purge valve mounted on the radiator and connected to the vacuum tree by the manifold. I've had to replace the rubber and tubing there multiple times. I...

Re: Oil - What weight do you use? (Please forgive me for asking...)

10w30 won't be an actual synthetic oil whatever the label says. It'll be a blend. The winter weight is really only important when cold starting if it's freezing. 10w is ok down to -10C or so. Colder and you want lighter. The operating weight is more important. The difference in actual oil temperatur...

Re: P80 versus P2

From a Volvo enthusiast who has had two P80s and two P2 cars, this is my opinion. The P2 has a more robust door open guide, a bit better handling, and my current 2004 P2 still has NO squeaks or rattles even after 186K of driving. My 98 V70 Cross Country was the worst with interior squeaks. I traded ...

Re: P80 versus P2

The P2 (S80) may drive better but our 06 XC70 handling is not as good as any of my P80's. Front suspension is clunky. If you like your comfort then the P80 seats are better. Otherwise, the P2 is a mostly decent car. Try to avoid the adjustable suspension if possible unless it has already been replac...

Re: P80 ball joint nut/ bolt 988185 987891

I’m learning as I go on this one, since 2015 The flange nut is actually a single use lock nut. It doesn’t take a huge torque, because the shank holds the ball joint in place, not the tension in the fastener. Neither the dealer nor Volvo web store shows the bolt and nut as orderable separately, but y...

Re: Rear windshield fluid sprayer

The pump most likely has frozen due of lack of use. The wagons have 2 pumps. I have had to replace one even after a year as I seldom use the rear one and they stick. I have been able to strip them and get them going again but it is a pain to do and likely ends up with damaging them beyond repair. Th...
