Re: V70 T5 Tranny Troubles
Your code is telling you that most likely the SLU Solenoid has an issue. You don't need an entire transmission for a single solenoid. How does your fluid look? You may get lucky and a drain and fill could resolve your issue or more than likely you have a failed/failing SLU solenoid. I would look at ...

Re: V70 T5 Tranny Troubles
Brenda: VIDA is not a bad option, but not necessary. Most shops with modern scanners can do what VIDA does. The transmission in your car is the same as in a number of American cars, Nissans and a few others. To fix the solenoids, if that is your only problem, is not difficult. If you do some digging...

Re: I need pricing help for a 2001 XC70
If one is going to try repeated drain and fills in the hopes of cleaning out the valve body I suggest one uses SeaFoam Trans Tune and Valvoline Maxlife Tranny fluid. The added detergent may free up the sticky solenoids if that is the cause of the miss-shifts. Why MaxLife? It is cheap and plentiful. ...

Re: '00 V70XC runs well but smokes, uses oil
Thicker engine oil may change the compression numbers if you have an engine ring problem. The change should be seen on all 5 cylinders as an increase. If you have another problem the oil weight change will most likely have zero effect. I would suggest you pull the spark plugs and look at them. You a...

Re: V70 T5 Tranny Troubles
Here is the write up I used when I did my valve body work. I did not use an engine brace, rather I supported the engine with a jack and wood block on the engine oil pan. Engine needs to be supported as part of the subframe is being dropped. The second time I did it I skipped a few steps that made th...

Re: Etm/new TPS, not working what to check for?
Can any of this be done through VIDA? I know on my 2001 with the MM ETM that is how I handled it while fault tracing. I was able to cycle the unit and calibrate if I recall - ultimately I converted it to a pointless system as the MM ETMs had issues.
If you have access to VIDA, I would look there.

Re: head gasket and valve seals
Yes they are or were my personal cars. The two Volvos I did head gasket repairs on are no longer in my fleet, but for the time after I owned them they were fine. One about 10k, another about 25k before they were sold. The two current cars I still have with VR valve stem seals are a BMW X3 going fine...

Re: ATF for power steering fluid ???
What does your current fluid look like? Is it reddish to brown or greenish to brown? Both fluids will go towards brownish as they get dirty and old, but the base color is different. If reddish than you have ATF and if greenish then you have PS fluid. This assumes no prior incorrect service. I think ...

Re: V70 T5 Tranny Troubles
Yes - with foot on brake - use the Geartronic mode and shift through the gears. If I recall it will not let you do some of the higher forward gears - just keep going up until the gear number doesn't change (if I recall it stops at 3). The BF mechanic/friend is correct the sludge is the wearing clutc...
