Re: Fuel Pump Relay Examinations 1998 v70 non turbo

If you become a junkyard regular, you usually end up with several of these. I recently used one to help a 'new' 850 owner with the poor running of their car. It would be good to have a 'proper' way of testing these off the car, and especially if we end up rebuilding them to know the work was succes...

Re: Fuel Pump Relay 9434225 Examinations 1998 v70 non turbo

Al, thank you so much for demystifying all that stuff on the circuit board! Do you think in the early stage of failure, when the relay contacts are not solidly closed (but still delivering adequate power to the pump for the car to run) that the sort of random square wave output from the relay could...

Re: Fuel Pump Relay 9434225 Examinations 1998 v70 non turbo

I understand your position on this foggy, but keep in mind these parts may not always be available new, so having a way to repair may be the only option. Owning an AWD car soon teaches you to have to repair and modify parts as new are not available and in some cases for over 5 years and more. Neil....

ESR stands for "equivalent series resistance": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalent_series_resistance Yes it is like a resistance in series with the cap. When a current flows into the cap it has to go through that resistance and that means that the voltage at the terminals of the actu...

Re: Is it possible to test a fuel pump relay? 9434225

Hello again, I just wanted to make a note that when i did the jumper on jumper off jumper on etc. test the relay was not working right so i had to connect it and disconnect it several times to get the internal coil to the relay to energize and thus close the contacts and thus turn the fuel pump on. ...

Re: Fuel Pump Relay 9434225 Examinations 1998 v70 non turbo

You think a lot of people would be interested in this kind of thing? Lots of people will be interested, and 99% of them will then buy a new one from FCP with a lifetime warranty. :D :D :D It's a great academic exercise, but not one that would be financially viable. Hi, Yes i think that's right. Som...

1 Minute per Second Battery Start Rule

Hello there, I am posting this to see what other members think of this sort of 'rule'. I call it the "1 minute per second battery start rule" because it looks like if it takes 1 second to start the car it takes 1 minute of engine idling to recharge the battery. Since it may take 3 seconds ...

Re: 1 Minute per Second Battery Start Rule

Starting for only a minute or even five could cause lawnmower syndrome? At any rate; if you run the engine long enough to reach normal operating temperature, at least five minutes will have passed? I'm curious what the practical reason for the original question? June Hi June, Yes 5 minutes may be e...

Re: Can you gap your own Spark Plugs? 1998 v70 non turbo FWD

Yes, I believe this is related to their reliable engines. The story dates back to the start of Toyota's Total Quality Management (TQM) in 1960's. Gauge blocks are not cut to size, but are ground to size and maybe polished to the final dimensions. Beyond maybe 0.0001 tolerances, especially with smoo...
