Re: How many miles did you drive your P80 over Thanksgiving?

Zero miles today, though I did haul the family to the NYC parade and back on the bus and train, an hour each way. They spent more time eating snacks and drinking hot chocolate than watching any balloons or marching bands.

Thirty-three miles yesterday to visit the folks and another 33 tomorrow!

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Today, I opened the hood, stared at the misfiring engine for a few minutes, thought about swapping things around to see if the problem stayed in cyl 5 or travelled, and closed it again. Major case of the fuggits. Been there! That was me with the turbo replacement on my old 2001 Saab 9-5. It only to...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

The good news is that all the new radiator hoses appear dry, as well as the heater hoses. No new leaks, coolant smell, wet spot or steam from the engine today (or last night), but I did notice a damp hose where it meets the timing cover (upper right section in the photo below). Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

http://www.turbochuck.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20855/HG_Leak.jpg Tested the wife's '97 GLT for a HG leak. Had been noticing the cooling system holding pressure for even a couple days, and she'd been occasionally pushing a little coolant past the cap. It's a vert minor leak, so it's not dir...

Re: Overhaul of shock absorbers and steering parts

Some of these things you might not know to replace until you take it apart. The strut mounts, or "roller bearings," can be reused if they're turning smoothly. I just reused them after replacing the shocks in my 2000 V70. I'm going to replace them in my '98 V70 because they're looking like ...

Re: Broken fuel line clip to fuel filter

Update: Finally repaired the leaky fuel line in my '98 V70 (base) with a P2 filter, quick connect clip, 5/16" hard plastic fuel line, two 8mm clamps, and a heat gun. So far, so good. No leaks!

Re: Rate your skills - the official MVS poll

Too modest! Pulling a VR6 engine out of one of the most inconvenient body designs (EuroVan), plucking the engine, separating the transmission, replacing timing chains and a torque converter, and putting it all back together (well, almost) qualifies as a 4 for sure. Or at least it will once it's all ...

Re: '97 850 - repair or scrap?

Here is the lowest hanging DIY fruit: > Pads and rotors is a really easy job. Watch a couple YouTube videos, they don't even need to be for this car to be very applicable. Parts cost is about $180 for likely better parts than the shop will give you, that includes bleeding the brakes. Savings = $350...

abscate wrote: 15 Oct 2020, 04:36 A very good friend of mine has a habit of buying parts for a job and then finding out he bought them earlier. I have found sticking with a single vendor reduces the Factor Chance Probability.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! :)

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

It’s the worst. I literally haven’t done that even though I started changing my own oil when I was 16. How are these places still in business?

Today I fixed a loose rear-view mirror and washed the T5 for the first time. Not bad!
