Re: Cheap Timing Belt Discussion

Can't stress this enough: Genuine or original equipment manufacturer only for the timing service! The $200-250 spent is good insurance to keep your car out of the scrapyard for the next 80k+ miles.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Drove the T5 today into the mountains for a hike. Got back to the car just as thunderstorms were approaching. Turned the key on, fuel pump buzzed, turned to start and.... nothing but a click from the relay. Fortunately I was parked facing downhill, so I just bumped started it (pros of having a manua...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Wait. People wax their cars without removing the license plate? Savagery. Add another item to the used car inspection list. The attachment of the rear plate on the p80 is an engineering beauty. The two screws recess into the trunk/tailgate lid so they don’t corrode The threads on my screws weren't ...

Re: Consensus on aftermarket / rebuilt calipers and wheel hubs?

You're also forgetting the $12-15 in shipping to send it back, plus several days of down time without the car. I'd rather not replace them every 1-2 years.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Due to some oil getting spilled on my FCP return box, I now have a brand new Mann, not opened in dirty box, cartridge oil filter for a 99-00 P80 (and possibly other models). Mann Oil Filter HU819x free to good home, I have no use for it. E Showell, abscate and kahl have first dibs to balance the ka...

I hit 280k last week. But I didn't take a photo so I guess I can't claim to be first.

Restoration: I Bought the Cheapest Running 98 V70 T5M (2023)

I'm back from the dead. After suffering the tragic loss of my beloved 324k mi 98 S70 T5M to a rod knock, I did the right thing and went on Marketplace to buy the closest Volvo V70. To my delight it was a tuned 98 V70 T5 with a factory installed M56 and some other under the hood goodies (R manifolds,...

Re: 850r failing emissions miserably (HC and CO)

Yes, just stretch a glove over the oil fill and see if she sucks or blows. Obviously if it becomes a balloon, then the pcv should be fully serviced.

Do they really require such an antique at this point to pass emissions? Most states I know exempt anything over 25years old.

All right, all right. Here are some quick and dirty pics from my phone. (And no this isn't my garage, and it was only supposed to be here for a few hours)

Re: 850r failing emissions miserably (HC and CO)

One more thing: if you are not getting full boost, you might have a badly worn turbo, split intercooler hoses (check carefully, they might look okay if not boosting) or a shot intercooler. Usually it's the hoses, but I had a badly worn turbo in my 94 and you could smell the overly rich exhaust gase...
