Re: release cv joint
Actually I am pretty sure you have the right size clamp, 97 Oetiker is correct for the non-turbo outer CV. And since the boot went on OK, it sounds like it is still a non-turbo CV joint, the smaller one. Wipe everything clean of grease and you should be able to put it on using the technique in the b...

Re: release cv joint
Yes, the difference is in the CV not in the axle shaft. You can also swap whole axles between NA and turbo cars, but not recommended to put the smaller NA CV axle in a turbo.
You can measure the diameter of the CV while it is in the car, that way you can figure out if it is turbo or NA axle.

Re: release cv joint
Not an issue at all to have the axles "mismatched" like that. You're good to go! A proper alignment on these cars is what's called a 4-wheel alignment. They align the back first, then the front accounting for the thrust angle. On the other hand fewer and fewer shops know how to align the r...

Re: axle options
I found Detroit Axle has rebuilt axles for your car with great prices and lifetime warranty. I can't vouch for the quality, but the brand has been mentioned here at MVS before. Web site: https://www.detroitaxle.com/shop/cv-axles/front-driver-side-cv-axle-shaft-for-93-97-volvo-850-1998-s70-v70-exclud...

Re: axle options
Also check with Raxles in SC (NC?). Good service, top quality, not sure if he builds Volvo axles.

Re: axle options
Your only option for a quality axle is to get one from a junkyard P80 car. Or look for a part-out here on the forums. For your non-turbo FWD car, any FWD auto axle will work, 95-98 turbo or non-turbo. raxles.com got out of the P80 business about three years ago but you could try them. I don't think ...

Re: axle options
I hear ya on the unknown. Problem with the new axles is the known! On a used Volvo axle if the boot is intact then the grease inside is probably fine. Basically no one (yes, there are exceptions) has trouble with the CVs until the boots split. Then if you catch it early after splitting and keep it c...

Re: It's time to start bulking up on 850s
I had to replace the attaching plates on my rear bumper and I found I think 2 places that carried them. Only 1 in the states, I didn't call any dealerships for it. FCP doesn't carry them. For a minute I thought I was going to have to rig something. Didn't think about buying extras although I should...
