<<<EDIT 2021-04-27>>> I'm keeping the canonical list of Volvo Paint codes here . I'm linking the color names in that to posts here that show a Volvo with that paint. -Matt <<<END EDIT>>> Color Codes and the different models on which they were used (includes wheel colors at the bottom). Btw, the col...

1998 V70 $310.00 boneyard intercept
Hi guys, Just wanted to say thanks for the outstanding post and repair data base at this site. I looked at this 98 V70 in early November from Craig's list for $1500.00. I have never seen a more neglected car except at a boneyard. The short list was metal to metal on brakes, top radiator fitting crac...

I made a thing! 240 seats as furniture
This is my gearhead ikea project. I think I started on this because my couch was stupid and uncomfortable. Being a Volvo nut, I found a full set of '93 240 sedan seats on ebay for cheap money and the guy even delivered them to me in his 240DL! I stripped the upholstery off to give them a little clea...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
If the cam seals leak you have to lock the shafts from the back end with the other locking tool. You can get it a LOT cheaper on amazon $50. https://www.amazon.com/EWK-Locking-Crankshaft-Camshaft-Alignment/dp/B00H9WYGNE/ref=pd_cp_236_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00H9WYGNE&pd_rd_r=RDSM6ADWBWT374...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
If it is a failed cam seal, do the toothed wheels only go on in one position so you can realign your marks? Ahh, ok, now I see your confusion... No, the sprockets are not "keyed" to the camshaft, they can spin freely if the sprocket bolt is not tightened to approx 83 ftlbs. Thats why you'...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
Robert's video is the same 5 cyl engine, same TB and tensioner proceedure. Sounds like you located the leak. I changed both my cam seals, I still don't know which one was leaking. If you don't know for certain when the TB was done, I'd change everything. Seals (not crank seal) TB, water pump, TB ten...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
The CVVTs themselves have a factory tolerance that is acceptable. I think jimmy57 quoted me 1.5 mm of axial movement as being the maximum. Once you get them off you'll be able to see what I mean. The CVVT with the most axial play will most likely be the one that was leaking. It's usually not that th...

Volvo's BTCC history - two wheels up
In case you missed it, here's the story behind Volvo's mid-1990s campaign in the British Touring Car Championship , made iconic by the image of the BTCC Volvo 855 with two wheels up. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Volvo-1994-BTCC_resize.jpg To make the 850 race-worth...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
Bumping this back up because I finally got a chance to dive into this job. Just got everything uncovered - haven't even started the real cam seal job. My garage is cold and I'm taking my time. My experiences and questions so far, which might help someone down the road - 1. The airbox to turbo hose ...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70
5. He mentions pulling the cable housing at the passenger (right) side strut tower in order to get to the cam bolt with a breaker bar. Is this others experience as well? This has to move? Yes, this is documented in VIDA. You might have a low profile tool that will fit, but the risk of breaking the ...
